Precious Memories - Luxury Fingerprint Jewellery, 3D Casts, 2D Impressions of Hands & Feet for Babies and Adults

Train Service Delayed..... due to birth of baby!

Glenda Hickmott - Friday, March 08, 2013

People in the UK are always complaining about delays on public transport - but were a little surprised recently when it was announced the delay was due to the birth of a baby!

The number of babies born in UK each day varies. Averagely 1890 babies are born in UK every day and there has been an increase in the number of live birth from 706248 in 2009 to 723165 live birth in 2010. Total fertility rate for 2010 shows that women in UK are having two children on average but not all of the births are to plan, which keeps everyone here at Precious Memories very busy creating casts, impressions and jewellery.

Th planning of where it takes place is paramount to many mothers especially those having their first be it at hospital, in water or at home.

However, today, it was reported that a train service in London was delayed due to a woman giving birth, which leads us to ask - did you have your baby according to plan ?  If not, why?

Please share your stories below:-

Precious Matilda Mae

Glenda Hickmott - Wednesday, March 06, 2013

Precious Matilda Mae

Tonight is seemed wrong going on Facebook or Twitter to do anything but pay tribute to a baby girl called Matilda Mae.

Precious Matilda's Tiny Footprints

Matild'as tiny footprints so perfect and small
Her tiny footprints never touched the ground at all
Not one tiny footprint for now she will have my wings
Her tiny footprints we're meant for other things

You will hear her tiny footprints in the patter of the rain
Gentle drops like angel tears of joy and not from pain

You will see her tiny footprints in each butterflies lazy dance
she'll let you know she's with you if you just give her the chance.

You will see her tiny footprints in the rustle of the leaves
She will whisper names into the wind and call each one that grieves.

Most of all these tiny footprints are found on her mummy and daddy's heart
because even though she's gone now she knows they will never truly part

For those who are not familiar this is about a baby who died at the age of 9 months.  The news came up on Facebook and was a massive shock.

The world of Facebook and Twitter have been so moved with the strenght of Jennnie and tomorrow is Matilda Mae's Memorial.  Tonight, as this is being written more and more profile pictures on Facebook and avis on Twitter are changing to shine this star.  It is a touching time and has affected many.... the family are raising funds for Bliss and if you would like to make a donation please click on the following link:-  Make a Donation

And so to end....

LIFE IS TOO SHORT to wake up in the morning with regrets. so, love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don't and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it'd be easy, they just promised IT WOULD BE WORTH IT! :)

Glenda Hickmott - Saturday, March 02, 2013

Precious Memories website at http://www.precious-memories.co.uk/

Since Pandora, Links of London and Troll Beads were launched they have become increasingly popular and over the past year or two the demand for these at Precious Memories has risen dramatically.  Clients want their bracelet to stand out from the rest and what better way of doing htis than by having your little one's foot created into a solid pandora bead.

Due to the space of a bead we are limited to only offering footprints.  Cost £65

Pandora Style Dangle Bead
The cost of this is two-fold.  Our dangle beads are £12 and the charms start from £43 for a small fingerprint.
Or our handprint charms start from £53.  The dangle style beads is more flexible than the solid bead because it allows us to use fingerprints, hand and foot prints and even paw prints, as there is no limitation on space.

All our charms are handmade from Precious Metal Clay and once fired are .999% pure silver.

The beauty of any of these products is that we create a stamp of your print and then keep this on file so if you are looking to have identical copies of the original finger, foot, hand or pawprint created into something else such as cufflinks for hubby, then all you need to do is call or email us - it's really that simple.

We are delighted to be able to pander to our clients needs with our gorgeous pandora style range or charms and beads.

Grateful Mum raising funds for Maternity Services at JPUH

Glenda Hickmott - Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Grateful Mum raises funds for Maternity Services at JPUH

An emotional rollercoaster lasting over a decade has finally reached a happy conclusion thanks to the Fertility Clinic at the James Paget University Hospitals.

Over 10 years ago, Nicola Cohen and her husband Adam, an Orthopaedic surgeon at JPUH, decided they would like four children to complete their family unit.

Sadly, Nicola was diagnosed with a blood clotting condition that led to the loss of six babies over eight years. The loss of identical twins in September 2011 was particularly difficult to take and the couple felt that time was running out.

They approached the fertility clinic at the hospital and happily the treatment worked firs time. Nicola was closely monitored throughout her pregnancy with regular scans and antenatal appointments to reassure her that all was well.

Nicola said: “My life had been consumed with grief or anticipation of getting pregnant. I felt the need to explain my neurosis at every appointment but every person I met was understanding and sympathetic and the care I received at JPUH was second to none. The pregnancy progressed without incident and baby Seth Cohen arrived and is now a very happy one year old. Thanks to the hospital, our family is complete.

Nicola was so grateful to the fertility team for the care she received that she decided she would like to give something back. Having had Seth’s hand and footprints preserved in plaster, she then bought the franchise for Precious Memories in Norfolk and uses that to raise funds for the hospital.

Nicola said: “Making the framed hand and footprints and jewellery gives me the opportunity to meet some lovely babies and their parents. For every piece of jewellery sold, 100% of the profit goes to the maternity services charitable fund, and a percentage of the profits from the framed prints are also donated to the fund. Adam and I are so grateful to the James Paget staff for helping us to find resolution and happiness.”

Parents forced to quit jobs.....

Glenda Hickmott - Monday, October 22, 2012

Precious Memories website at http://www.precious-memories.co.uk/

Parents forced to quit jobs.....

How sad that in today's society parent are forced to quit their jobs because they are not being given flexible working hours. (Nursery World 22 Oct 2012). With the ever increasing rising costs in society today, it is not very often that one of the parents can be at home to stay and look after their newborn.  The government is constantly telling us that they are helping us - but are they really?

When I fell pregnant with my first daughter I was a primary school teacher with a background in marketing.  I had always planned to return to work however, being a teacher opened my eyes to what effect it has on some children having a parent at home and collecting them from school each day, so I decided to be a Stay At Home Mum and financially at the time I could afford to do this.

Over time, I began to get twitchy, whilst I loved being with my daughter I also like the independence of being able to go out and buy gifts with money earned by myself so I embarked on setting up a business which would allow me to continue being at home but also gave me the money to stand on my own two feet - so to speak.

Nine years on I am still at home with two lovely girls 8 and 5 and run Precious Memories, a business which offers bespoke gifts of 3d castings, belly bumps, 2d impressions and fingerprint jewellery for all the family including pets.

Over time it has grown throughout the UK and there are various artists offering our products to families.  The beauty of the franchise is that it allows artists to do a job which is flexible, be at home with their children and pop along to harvest festival assemblies, without asking for permission, not feel guilty if their child is ill and gives them some independence.

Realistically, I know not everyone has £6,000 or £10,000 up front to take on a franchise, but payment plans are offered to help if required.  Flexible job opportunities are available from my company and it is great to be able to offer people this opportunity when others seem set to make it almost impossible for them.
